Serawe Life
The life of 44-year-old Sheikh Halid, who lives in the village of Saraw (Sêraw) on the Iranian border of Süleymaniye, is a story of resistance shaped by the scars left by war. The mines laid along the border during Saddam Hussein's era still cast a dark shadow over the local population today. In 1992, Khalid lost his right leg when he stepped on a landmine in the countryside. He never gave up on life. In his life with his wife and daughter, he shoulders all the heavy work in the village to provide for his family. This work is my first documentary photography project that bears witness to the willpower displayed by a person despite physical loss. The project was photographed in 2011.
